The Path of Life

Life is a never-ending path that can be filled with meaning and happiness.

There are 6 truths we must understand in order to walk a meaningful, happy life.

i. I matter.

My value is not earned. It is not dependent on anyone. It is in born. I am a living soul. This is the foundation of a healthy human being.

Most people understand that they matter, but they can’t articulate why.

We must teach the children the real reason why they matter.

ii. Others matter.

If I matter for no other reason other than I am human, then logically, other human beings around me matter for the same reason.  We have a shared common worth.

This is the root cause of most all social problems. We form groups. People in our group matter, but people outside the group don’t. This must stop if we want peace.

Teach the children why others matter.

iii. We all have needs.

There are basic things that everybody needs such as water, food, clothing, and shelter. And there are deeper common needs such as belonging and purpose.

My needs matter and your needs matter.

Teach the children why the needs of others matter.

iv. We all are motivated.

Everyone has desires that we seek to fill. Specific desires are not common to everyone. Desires include dreams, goals, and ambitions.

Our goals may be opposing to other's goals. Care must be taken to correctly choose honorable motivations. People get angry with each other when they get in the way of their goals.

Teach the children to choose good motivations.

v. We all try to obtain things.

Some just take. Others search, strive, and grow. We stumble, and fall. We get knocked down. We seek knowledge and sharpen our skills. We take a swings at life’s challenges, pursuing both our needs and our goal.

This is the realm of traditional EDUCATION.  Historically, schools have concentrated on academics and extra-curricular activities.  We need a cultural change to help form the whole person.

Teach the children VIRTUES.

vi. We all must re-evaluate.

We face roadblocks or achieve our goals. Some goals fade, others disappear entirely. Life moves forward with successes and failures. In this constant cycle of living we must re-evaluate. We must return to the unshakable truths:

I still matter. Others matter.

And so, the journey begins again....

Teach the children to look back and begin again.
