B - Be Present

Notice the world around you.

This exercise is done wherever we find ourselves.

It is a reminder to take a pause and take notice of our surroundings.

If we are given another day to live, I suggest we be mindful of every moment.

If I have a cup of coffee, I smell it. I feel the warmth of the cup. I taste each sip.

If I am privileged enough to spend time with a family member, I want to be fully present. I listen to understand them.

The Practice of Mindfulness

When I go for a walk, I ask myself:

  • Do I hear the birds?
  • Do I notice the breeze?
  • Do I stop to smell the lilacs?

It doesn’t take much to slow down just a little bit to take notice of what is already around us. When we rush through life, we often miss the beauty that has been there all along.

Live in the Present

We can learn from the past, and we can prepare for the future, but living takes place in a limited number of present-day moments.

We should enjoy where we are as we walk toward the future. We should pause long enough to fully appreciate the gift of being alive.

The Great Big Beautiful World

It is a great big beautiful world, and we are privileged to be part of it.

There is always something to notice, someone to encourage, something to learn, and something to enjoy.

Let's slow down just enough to take it all in.

The world has always been full of wonder. Mindfulness simply helps us open our eyes to it.

Life is a gift. Let's not miss it.
